Mobile Suit Gundam
A 60-foot-tall robot towers over Yokohama, Japan. The massive machine can swivel its head, kneel down, point to the sky, and even walk!
The robot’s design is based on Mobile Suit Gundam, a Japanese cartoon from 1979. That first show launched a franchise that has more than 50 films, TV shows, comics, and games. It’s one of the most successful franchises in the world, earning almost $27 billion in total revenue. Construction on Yokohama’s RX-78F00 Gundam started in 2014. People celebrated its completion this past August with a traditional ceremony. The robot will officially be on display this year.
Fans can buy a model kit of the 60-foot-tall RX-78F00 Gundam. One kit has a scale factor of 1/144. How tall will the finished kit be in inches? Record your work and answer on our Numbers in the News answer sheet.
