Last year, giant tentacles burst out of a two-story warehouse in Philadelphia’s Navy Yard. But the colorful limbs weren’t from a huge ocean creature. They were part of Sea Monsters HERE, an art installation designed by United Kingdom-based artists Filthy Luker and Pedro Estrellas. The inflatable sculpture was the largest ever created by the duo, who have been building these projects since 1996. The purple-and-blue tentacles ranged from 32 to 40 feet in length and curled upward to reveal green suckers on the underside.

“These types of geometric designs are driven by numbers and proportions, which makes them very mathematical in appearance,” says Estrellas.
