As Nike’s newest spokesperson, 19-year-old Justin Gallegos is more than just a runner—he’s an inspiration. Gallegos is Nike’s first professional athlete with cerebral palsy, a condition that affects muscle coordination, making it difficult to walk.
Gallegos originally joined his high school cross-country team to improve his strength and coordination. But running soon became a lifestyle. Now a junior at the University of Oregon, Gallegos recently finished the Eugene Half Marathon in just over two hours. Next, he hopes to run in the Chicago Marathon.
This isn’t the first time Gallegos has worked with Nike. The two have teamed up before to develop running shoes for people with disabilities.
Justin can run 13.1 miles in 2 hours and 3 minutes. At that rate, how many minutes should it take him to run 20 miles? Round to the nearest tenth. Record your work and answer on our Numbers in the News answer sheet.
