The world’s first artificial intelligence (AI) art museum has opened in Los Angeles. It’s called DATALAND, and it was founded by artists Refik Anadol and Efsun Erkılıç.

For most artworks in DATALAND, the artists fed billions of nature images into an AI program. They prompted the AI to create art inspired by the images—as well as by the visitors! The art changes based on each person’s heart rate and body temperature, which is measured with a wearable device. This causes the visuals, sounds, and even smells to change!

“Most museums ask you to look at art. DATALAND invites you to step inside it,” Anadol says. “My hope is that visitors feel like active participants in the experience and discover new ways of connecting with art, technology, and nature.”
