Haunted houses are a top Halloween draw. From creaky Victorian mansions and ghostly hotels to . . . haunted car washes?! That’s right, haunted car washes!
Across the U.S., haunted car washes—where ghouls emerge out of suds, all while your car is getting cleaned—are a new Halloween activity. For Tommy’s Express Car Wash, a chain based in Holland, Michigan, it started in 2019 at a few locations. “People love these events and come back every year,” says Joel Fullmer, the brand’s marketing manager.
Now, at Tommy’s Express locations from California to Florida, cars drive through a Tunnel of Terror, complete with fog, jump scares, and cameos by classic horror characters like Jason and scary clowns. The company expects about 150 of its locations to run the event this Halloween. Some of its car washes have doubled weekly revenue during the Tunnel of Terror. “Cars line up down the road to participate in this event, leading to higher wash counts and revenue during event hours,” says Fullmer.
The Tunnel of Terror is just one of the newest haunted attractions being offered around the country. What haunted events will you visit this year?
