Speed climbing is one of the fastest competitive sports. Two climbers race each other up a 15-meter-high wall, and each race is over in less than 20 seconds!
Chinese climber Zhao Yicheng, now 17, was on a record-breaking streak this year. He first broke the men’s world record in April, scaling the wall in 4.586 seconds. Then in May, he shaved off 0.04 seconds! “It’s exciting to see athletes breaking records and leaving their mark on the climbing world,” says Emily Trombly, who works for USA Climbing.
