Gulls are known for stealing food from beachgoers. But there might be a way to prevent this: googly eyes! Biologist Laura Kelley and her team placed takeout boxes around a beach area. They added googly eyes to some of the boxes. A total of 32 birds approached the boxes, but the boxes with eyes received fewer pecks.
“Sometimes simple solutions can be quite effective,” Kelley says.
