When winter covers Michigan in snow, most people reach for sleds made of wood, metal, or plastic. But in Grand Haven, Michigan, cardboard takes the spotlight at the annual Cardboard Sled Race. With nothing more than cardboard, tape, paint, and imagination, racers turn simple materials into eye-catching creations. Designs range from rocket ships to cartoon characters.
As racers ride their masterpieces down a snowy hill, they’re judged on more than speed. They’re also evaluated on style, detail, and spirit. Some of the most elaborate designs might fall apart on the ride down . . . but that’s just part of the fun!
