This rare Superman #1 comic book just smashed records. It sold for $9.12 million at auction! The comic was published in 1939 and was the first one focused entirely on one superhero. Experts say its value comes from a mix of history and rarity. While about 900,000 copies were printed, only 300 to 400 are believed to still exist.

“It’s almost never found in nice condition,” says Barry Sandoval from Heritage Auctions, which held the auction. “They were not thought of as collectibles back then—just something to be read once and thrown out.”
