Three sisters in Ohio recently sold this dime for a mint. What makes it special? It was originally part of a “proof” set of coins that was sold to collectors in 1975. But this particular dime made it out the door without the “S” mark showing it was made at the San Francisco Mint. There’s only one other dime known to exist with the same flaw.
The coin was already valuable when the family bought it in 1978 for $18,200 (or about $90,000 today). But even the sisters were surprised when it sold at auction for $506,250!
