The Iberian lynx is one of the world’s most endangered cat species. But thanks to the hard work of conservationists, these medium-sized cats native to Spain and Portugal are on the rebound.
Back in 1996, there were fewer than 100 Iberian lynx left. To boost numbers, conservationists focused on rebuilding the cats’ habitat and food sources. As a result, the Iberian lynx population has been trending upward. The species was declared no longer endangered last year—and numbers are still improving.
