Life-Size LEGO
The LEGO Group
Formula 1 racer Lando Norris drove this LEGO version of his usual car.
Would you ride in a car made of LEGO® bricks? Formula 1 racer Lando Norris just did! Norris took it for a spin around a racetrack in England. This LEGO car can’t hit 217 miles per hour like the original McLaren P1 it’s based on. But its 8 LEGO electric motor packs got it up to 40 miles per hour!
The car’s body was made of 342,817 Technic pieces. The only parts of the car that weren’t LEGO were the tires and the steel frame! “It’s amazing to see so many of the elements from the original McLaren P1 brought to life so realistically,” said Ben Gulliver, an engineer at McLaren Automotive.
When built, the LEGO Technic toy version of the McLaren P1 is 6 inches tall. The scale of the toy car to the life-sized one is 1:8. How tall is the life-sized McLaren P1? Record your work and answer on our Numbers in the News answer sheet.
