Goldens Galore!
Roddy Mackay/The New York Times/Redux
This summer, 488 golden retrievers gathered in Scotland to celebrate the 155th birthday of the breed. Dogs from around the world made the trip with their humans to visit the ruins of Guisachan (KUSH-gan) House in Glen Affric. That’s where the first three golden retriever puppies—Crocus, Cowslip, and Primrose—were born in 1868. This gathering in their honor takes place every five years and features a mile-long pup procession!
On average, golden retrievers measure 40 inches long. How many dogs lined up nose to tail would equal 1 mile? (Hint: 1 mile = 5,280 feet). Record your work and answer on our Numbers in the News answer sheet.
