Would you spend a year in space? Frank Rubio did! He now holds the record for the longest stay in space by an American. This NASA astronaut returned to Earth last year after spending 371 consecutive days on the International Space Station (ISS). Rubio’s trip was supposed to last six months, but a problem with his ride home extended his stay in orbit. Rubio finally returned to Earth last September.

“Frank’s record-breaking time in space is not just a milestone; it’s a major contribution to our understanding of long-duration space missions,” says NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. In total, Rubio orbited Earth 5,936 times, traveling more than 157 million miles. That’s like taking 328 trips to the moon and back!
