Huge blue-and-green feathered creatures are invading Los Angeles!  Some areas have as many as 100 wild peacocks roaming the streets. A small population had lived in local forests for years without bothering anyone. But as housing developments spread, the birds started to roam through the communities. Efforts to relocate the birds were delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Some residents complain that the birds eat the plants in their gardens, tear shingles off houses, peck at their own reflections in cars, and shriek wake-up calls early in the morning. But other residents enjoy the birds’ presence and beauty. Some even give the birds names, like pets. Relocation efforts for the peacocks are back underway, but now there’s a new wild bird in town: The Los Angeles County supervisor warns that the wild parrot population is expected to quadruple over the next year!
