Air bags are used in cars to cushion passengers’ bodies during a crash, but a new invention aims to soften blows for bikers too! A company called Evoc Sports is bringing the protection of air bags to your next bike ride.

The Commute A.I.R. Pro 18 is a new backpack air bag safety system for bikers. “A helmet is currently still the best way to protect your head,” says Alexandra Hlawitschka, who works at Evoc Sports. “But other body parts are often hurt in bike crashes.”

That’s why Evoc created the backpack, which uses six sensors to check if a rider is falling or crashing. If it senses either, POOF! The air bags expand to protect the neck, chest, and shoulders. And the rider should have a much softer landing.
