Finding Percents
Find the following percents—rounded to the nearest percent—based on the picture. Record your work and answers on our answer sheet.
What percent of the balloons have a star pattern?
What percent of the balloons in the air are polka-dotted?
What percent of the solid-colored balloons are in the air?
What percent of the balloons on the ground are heart-shaped?
A percent is a ratio that compares a number to 100. When you know a part and the whole, you can calculate a percent.
To convert a ratio into a percent, you divide the part by the whole. Round the result to the nearest hundredth, multiply it by 100, and add a percent sign.
5 ÷ 7 = 0.71428. . .
Rounds to 0.710.71 × 100 = 71%
