By the Numbers: The World Series

The Boston Red Sox beat the L.A. Dodgers 4 games to 1 last year.

Batter up! For more than 100 years, Americans have gathered (almost) every fall to see which professional baseball team will be crowned best. The competition has been canceled only twice: once for a players’ strike in 1994 and the other in 1904 because of a bitter rivalry when the New York Giants refused to play the Boston Americans. The World Series consists of up to seven games. The first team to win four wins the championship!

Years the Boston Red Sox went without winning a World Series because of the Curse of the Bambino, which began when the team traded Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. The losing streak ended in 2004.
