Counting the Country

Starting on April 1, the United States will conduct a census. This population count takes place every 10 years. The census helps the government know how many people live in the country and what their backgrounds are.

The census results determine how many seats in Congress each state gets and how federal money is distributed. According to California’s Attorney General Xavier Becerra, “The census numbers provide the backbone for planning how our communities can grow and thrive.”
