Sleep Like an Artist
Imagine if you could experience a painting by actually stepping inside the scene. Visitors to the Art Institute of Chicago last winter could do just that! Artists re-created Vincent van Gogh’s famous paintings of his bedroom as a real, life-sized room. As an added bonus, guests could rent the room for $10 a night.
The artists also translated the color and texture of Van Gogh’s brushstrokes. For example, they outlined the edges of a chair with black paint to replicate black shadows created in the painting.
The first guest checked in on February 14, and the last checked out on May 10. The room was occupied every night. How much money in all did guests pay to stay? Hint: Remember 2016 is a leap year!
