50 Years Of Star Trek
On September 8, 1966, the first episode of Star Trek aired on NBC. At the time, critics didn’t think the TV show would last. But 50 years, 726 episodes, and 13 movies later, the iconic franchise about interstellar space travel shows no signs of slowing down.
The newest story of Starfleet, Star Trek Beyond, comes out on DVD this month. It follows Captain Kirk, Spock, Uhura, and the rest of the original crew on a new adventure. Eagle-eyed viewers will see subtle nods to the franchise’s 50th anniversary throughout the movie, including the stardate it starts on: 966.
On average, each live-action episode of Star Trek is 48 minutes long, each of the 22 animated episodes is 24 minutes long, and each movie is about 2 hours long. How many days would it take a superfan to watch every episode and movie without interruption?
