Circles of Light
In a historic church-turned-art gallery in North Lincolnshire, England, the colors bouncing around the room aren’t caused by light shining through stained-glass windows. Instead, the rainbows come from an installation by artist Liz West.
“Our Color Reflection” features more than 700 colored circular mirrors of different diameters. Although they appear to be hovering at various heights just above the church’s floor, each mirror is actually sitting on a clear stand. The mirrors reflect not only the architectural features of the church but also the viewers who peer into them. The result is a flood of shifting colors.
The largest mirror West used had a diameter of 60 centimeters. What is its circumference?
